Legacy Artists was founded by John & Terry Reimer in 2003 with the objective of producing museum quality figurative oil paintings. Together they have developed a unique style, reminiscent of the classical elegance of William Bouguereau and the vibrant brushwork of John Singer Sargent. Drawing upon Terry's formal education in life drawing and painting and John's expertise in digital imaging, the studio offers clients a fresh approach to the somewhat staid process of portraiture.

Portrait Artists

Portrait artists, John & Terry Reimer have had a long time love for classic realism figurative art. Both started drawing and painting at an early age and have continued to do so throughout their lives. Their styles are similar in many ways, so much so that sometimes they will even collaborate on the same painting. Both artists’ styles and methods have been deeply influenced by the old masters like Sargent, Bouguereau and Rembrandt.

John & Terry have been studying life drawing and painting with several living master painters in workshops and classes over the years. Additionally, Terry attended the prestigious School of Representational Art, an atelier located in Chicago, Il, a school entirely dedicated to training artists in the methods of the old masters.

The couple's passion for excellence, their belief in creating enduring art with a timeless quality and their love and great respect for many of the great portrait artists before them is evident in all of their work.

Legacy Artists' studio is located near downtown San Jose in a renovated cannery, dating back more than 100 years. The original brick walls of the cannery are still present and provide an interesting backdrop for the studio's commissioned portraits.

The process is both simple and fun from start to finish:

1.

Discuss the objective of the painting in person or by phone. At this time we will review the style of portrait (formal or informal), where the painting will hang, the setting or location, clothes to be worn as well as any special jewelry or other meaningful objects which may be included in the portrait. General frame styles or preferences will be discussed at this time.

2.

Digital photography session of 1-2 hours in our studio, your home or a location of your choice. Our unique method allows us to photograph the subject independently from the setting. This allows us a great deal of flexibilty, for example we can photograph the subject in our studio and photograph a setting at the beach then composite the two images. We use professional cameras and lighting which can be set up either in our studio or a location of the clients' choosing.

3.

Review and choose the best combination of photographs to be used as reference material in creating the portrait.

4.

Legacy Artists will develop studies for the painting to review with the clients. Color, accuracy and mood will be carefully reviewed. The portrait studies can be shared with you both online and in printed form. The image on the left is an example of a study for a large scale painting. At this time we will also recommend a specific frame for the painting.

5.

The commissioned oil painting is executed and delivered to the client. When possible, John and Terry like to personally deliver the portrait and view it in the subject's home.

Painted Faces
Legacy Artists is proud to introduce a new style of portrait painting. Our Painted Faces™ line transforms the elegance of traditional portraiture into a striking contemporary style. Each painted portrait is created using a photographic reference that captures the personality and spirit of the subject. The portrait is then hand painted with oil on canvas and is typically centered on a black background. The finished oil on canvas is then wrapped over a wooden frame, giving it a contemporary look designed to be hung directly on your wall. As an option, your portrait can be mounted on hardboard giving you the ability to have it traditionally framed.

As always, Legacy Artists is committed to providing a high level of customer satisfaction throughout the entire process. We hope that you will enjoy viewing your Painted Faces™ portraits as much as we enjoy creating them.

For a limited time we are offering our Painted Faces™ line at special introductory prices:

* We expect many families may want to have portraits of all of their children and display them side by side. In cases such as this we will offer an additional 10% discount. To receive this discount, all subjects must be photographed at the same time.

Maui Portraits
Legacy Artists is offering you a truly unique way to commemorate your stay on Maui, a commissioned oil painting. Our process is both simple and fun and will not interrupt your time on the island. Pricing starts out at $2500 which would include an unframed 16 x 20 single subject portrait and increases from there depending on size, complexity and the number of people in the painting. We will gladly quote you a specific price after discussing with you the specifics for a painting you are considering. The process starts out with the scheduling of a photographic session at a location of your choice. If you do not have a location in mind our photographer can suggest one for you. The photos that are taken will be used as reference material to create your portrait. We will create a painting study for you to proof and approve prior to the final execution of your portrait. This typically takes 2 to 4 weeks to complete depending on the complexity of the portrait and is sent to your home. Once approved the final portrait will be shipped to your house upon completion. Shipping of the final portrait typically takes 2 to 4 weeks from the date we receive your study approval.  If you would like further details or are interested in scheduling a shoot please call us at (888) 281-2787
